Monkey Puzzle, the UK’s largest childcare franchise network is opening its first Essex nursery in Southend-on-Sea.
Couple Sammi and James Walker launched Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Southend; a 60-place day nursery offering full-time childcare to children from three months to five-years-old.
Sammi Walker will run the nursery with plans to recruit up to 20 staff as intake increases.

Mrs Walker, who has worked in childcare for 12 years, said: “I have worked in childcare since I left school but have always dreamt of owning my own nursery business.”
The couple have spent eight weeks transforming the former doctors’ surgery into a child-friendly space, after securing a £161,500 funding package from NatWest to purchase the leasehold for the premises.
The first Monkey Puzzle nursery was founded in 1978.
“A franchise felt like the perfect option for our first business venture, and Monkey Puzzle in particular stood out because of its great track record as a brand and the extensive support it offers franchisees, from finding a location to staffing and training.
“The response in the area so far has been fantastic, with 26 children already signed up following two open days, and we look forward to welcoming them and their parents soon.”
